Unifi Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Earth Day through Education
Unifi Inc. (NYSE: UFI) will celebrate Earth Day through tree plantings at local community elementary schools. Unifi employees nominated their children’s schools and the company drew four winning schools to participate in a tree planting in honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The winning schools are Greensboro’s St. Pius X Catholic School, Huntsville Elementary in Reidsville, Stoneville Elementary in Stoneville and Yadkinville Elementary in Yadkin County.
“At Unifi, we work hard to minimize our environmental impact and we want to encourage and motivate our younger generations to participate in Earth Day- everyday”, said Roger Berrier, Executive Vice President for Unifi. “The tree planting is a simple way to educate and remind children that small changes can make a make a big difference in our environment.”
These activities are focused on educating children about the importance of environmental sustainability and the responsibility companies like Unifi have in protecting the environment. Unifi’s eco-friendly product, REPREVE®, is a family of 100% recycled fibers that are made from waste and post-consumer plastic (PET) bottles. REPREVE fibers can be found in many of the world’s leading brands and retailers including Polartec, Patagonia, Haggar and Wal-Mart.
